Teeth of the Dog: The Complete Golfer's Guide

By Sardell Realty · May 2026 · 7 min read

Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo has been ranked the #1 golf course in the Caribbean and Central America for over two decades. Designed by Pete Dye in 1971, it features seven holes carved along the rocky Caribbean coastline — the most oceanfront holes of any course in the Western Hemisphere.

If it's on your bucket list, here's everything you need to know to plan the perfect round.

The Signature Holes

Teeth of the Dog has 18 memorable holes, but these are the ones you'll be talking about at dinner:

Hole 5 (Par 3, 155 yards) — The first oceanfront hole. Tee shot carries entirely over the rocky coastline to a green surrounded by coral and crashing waves. Wind is the hidden defense — take one extra club.
Hole 7 (Par 3, 225 yards) — The longest and most photographed par 3 on the course. A massive carry over the ocean to a narrow green. From the tips, it's one of the most intimidating tee shots in Caribbean golf. Play it from the forward tees and enjoy the view.
Hole 8 (Par 4, 440 yards) — Dogleg left along the coast. Your drive flirts with the ocean on the left, and the approach plays to a green perched on the cliff edge. Birdie feels like an eagle here.
Hole 15 (Par 3, 160 yards) — Another ocean carry par 3 with the green sitting directly on the water. Wind direction changes everything. Your caddie's club suggestion is gospel.
Hole 16 (Par 4, 385 yards) — The most dramatic finishing stretch begins. Drive must avoid the ocean left and bunkers right. The approach is to a green with the Caribbean as a backdrop. Pure Pete Dye.

What Else to Play

Most golf groups at Casa de Campo play all three courses over a 3-5 night stay:

Dye Fore (27 holes)

Pete Dye's second course at Casa de Campo features 27 holes with dramatic 300-foot cliff-top views over the Chavón River and the Caribbean. Three distinct nines (Marina, Chavón, and Lagos) offer variety and some of the most Instagram-worthy holes in golf. Green fees are slightly lower than Teeth of the Dog.

The Links (18 holes)

An inland links-style course opened in 2012. Open fairways, strategic bunkering, and a different challenge from the oceanfront courses. Great for a warm-up round on arrival day or a casual final round before you fly home.
